Greenwood County is looking for a team player to join the road crew.  In this position you will be operating heavy machinery to accomplish a variety of road construction and maintenance tasks, including gathering and transporting materials, grading and compacting roads, paving roads, digging drainage ditches, repairing roads and driveways, removing trees and vegetation adjacent to roads, building and installing catch basins, etc.

Duties include but not limited to:
  • Knowledge and ability to operate equipment to include but not limited to backhoe, front end loader, bush hog, bulldozer, crawler loader, motor grader, trucks, tractor, crane, slope mowers and mowers.
  • Utilizes various types of machinery and tools as necessary to perform road maintenance and construction duties, including a chain saw, weed eater, hand tools, mechanic's tools, and a two-way radio.
  • Safely load, unload and transport heavy equipment to job sites.
  • Receives work orders and completes jobs in a timely manner as prescribed by the department. Completes vehicle and equipment maintenance inspection and indicates when service and repairs are needed. Issues are reported to the supervisor.
  • Assists in traffic control for the job site, zone set-up and placement of construction signs and barricades for employees and public safety.
  • Assists with directing traffic at job sites using paddle signs or flags.
  • Performs related work with various other department duties as assigned.

Type: Full Time
       Salary/Pay Rate: $42,467.92 - $63,701.87
       $2,250 yearly CDL Retention Stipend (pro-rated)

Workdays are Monday through Thursday, 10-hour shifts; Weekends and overtime are as needed

REQUIRED Education and Experience :
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of heavy equipment operation experience or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Physically able to operate a variety of types of machines and heavy equipment including motor grader, tractor, backhoe, trucks, bushhogs, and various general maintenance equipment
  • Successful completion of heavy equipment skill set assessment provided by Greenwood County Public Works.
  • Valid Class A SC Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
